Lufthansa Allegris 2026: The new flagship cabin product (and the partner-award lockout)
- Lufthansa Miles & More members (their own program)
- FRA-SFO, FRA-ORD:
- For Allegris First Class:
- For Lufthansa legacy 747-8 First:
Lufthansa rolled out Allegris on the new A350 fleet starting in 2024. The four cabin classes — Allegris First, Business Suite, Business Class, and Premium Economy — represent a meaningful upgrade over Lufthansa's aging long-haul fleet. The catch for points travelers: Allegris First is currently NOT bookable on partner miles. It's reserved for Lufthansa Miles & More members and cash buyers only. The legacy 747-8 First Class is still bookable on partner programs at competitive rates.
The Allegris cabin layout
| Cabin | Configuration | Seat type |
|---|---|---|
| Allegris First (3 seats) | 1-1-1 in front of A350 | Fully enclosed cabin with sliding door, full-flat 7' bed, separate bed + work area |
| Business Suite (4 seats) | 1-2-1 with privacy doors | Sliding privacy door, full-flat 6'8" bed, similar to Qatar QSuite |
| Business Class (~38 seats) | 1-2-1 herringbone | Full-flat 6'4" bed, privacy partitions, no enclosed door |
| Premium Economy | 2-3-2 | 38-inch pitch + extra legroom |
The partner-award lockout (Allegris First)
Lufthansa restricts Allegris First Class redemption to:
- Lufthansa Miles & More members (their own program)
- Cash buyers
Star Alliance partner programs (Aeroplan, Avianca LifeMiles, United MileagePlus, Singapore KrisFlyer, etc.) cannot book Allegris First. The cabin appears in award searches but is "Z" class only — not "F" class for partner award booking.
This is unusual. Most airlines release at least some First Class saver inventory to Star Alliance partners. Lufthansa's decision to keep Allegris First exclusive to its own program is a meaningful change from the legacy 747-8 First Class policy.
The legacy 747-8 First Class workaround
Lufthansa's legacy 747-8 First Class IS still bookable on partner miles. The 747-8 operates on these routes (as of May 2026):
- FRA-LAX: Daily on the 747-8
- FRA-IAD: Daily on the 747-8
- MUC-EWR: Daily on the 747-8 (some seasons)
- FRA-SFO, FRA-ORD: Variable; sometimes 747-8, sometimes A350 (Allegris)
For points travelers wanting Lufthansa First Class on points, target the 747-8 routes. Avianca LifeMiles publishes 87,000 miles each way + ~$25 cash for Lufthansa First on Star Alliance partner award.
The Business Suite (4 seats per A350)
The Allegris Business Suite — the closed-door pairs at the front of business class — is bookable on partner award. The cabin has only 4 such seats per A350, making it the most-constrained cabin in the aircraft. Pricing on partner awards: same as Allegris standard Business Class (~70k Aeroplan or 63k LifeMiles each way US-Europe).
For travelers booking partner business class on Lufthansa A350, the Business Suite is the upgrade target. Use UpgradeMyFlight or call Lufthansa to request Business Suite assignment after partner award booking.
The Allegris award booking strategy
- For Allegris First Class: Build Lufthansa Miles & More miles via paid Lufthansa flights or buy miles direct (rarely cost-effective). Or pay cash retail (~\$15,000+ each way US-FRA in First).
- For Lufthansa legacy 747-8 First: Use Avianca LifeMiles (87,000 + ~\$25), Aeroplan (120,000 fixed), or United (110-180k dynamic). LifeMiles is cheapest.
- For Allegris Business Suite (4 seats): Book partner award and request Business Suite assignment. Limited availability.
- For standard Business Class: 63,000 LifeMiles or 70,000 Aeroplan each way US-Europe is the cleanest path.
The route migration timeline
Lufthansa is gradually replacing 747-8 routes with A350 (Allegris). Current trajectory:
- 2024-2025: Allegris launched on FRA-Tokyo, FRA-Singapore, FRA-Bangkok, MUC-routes
- 2026-2027: Expected to expand to most US routes; legacy 747-8 retains FRA-LAX, FRA-IAD, MUC-EWR
- 2028+: Most or all routes converted to A350; 747-8 retired
For travelers wanting Lufthansa First on partner miles, the window for the legacy 747-8 First Class is narrowing. Plan trips for 2026-2027 if you can.
The Allegris Premium Economy
Allegris Premium Economy is bookable on partner awards. Pricing on partner programs:
- US-Europe Premium Economy via LifeMiles: ~50,000 LifeMiles each way
- US-Europe Premium Economy via Aeroplan: ~60,000 Aeroplan each way
For travelers wanting an upgraded experience without the business class mile cost, Premium Economy on Allegris is meaningfully better than legacy Lufthansa Premium Economy.
Bottom line
Lufthansa Allegris is a meaningful upgrade for the airline, but the partner-award lockout on Allegris First Class is a meaningful loss for points travelers. The legacy 747-8 First Class remains bookable on partner programs (LifeMiles 87k cheapest) but the route window is narrowing. For most points travelers, target Allegris Business Suite (limited 4 seats per A350) when booking standard Business Class on Lufthansa partner awards. The 747-8 First Class via LifeMiles at 87,000 miles is the strongest aspirational redemption while it lasts.
What is Lufthansa First Class on partner miles?
Lufthansa First Class on the legacy 747-8 (still flying FRA-LAX, FRA-IAD, MUC-EWR) is bookable on Star Alliance partner miles. Avianca LifeMiles publishes the cheapest rate at 87,000 miles + ~$25 cash each way. Aeroplan publishes 120,000 miles fixed; United uses dynamic pricing typically 110,000-180,000+. The new Allegris First on the A350 fleet is restricted to Lufthansa Miles & More members and cash buyers only — partner programs cannot book Allegris First. The legacy 747-8 retirement window is closing.
