Chase Ultimate Rewards is the most popular transferable points currency in the United States, and for good reason. With 11 airline and 3 hotel transfer partners, a user-friendly portal, and some of the best co-branded credit cards on the market, Chase UR is the Swiss Army knife of travel rewards.
But versatility is a double-edged sword. With so many options, most cardholders leave value on the table. This playbook shows you exactly where the outsized redemptions are—and which transfers to avoid.
The Transfer Partner Landscape
Chase transfers to airlines at a 1:1 ratio (1,000 UR = 1,000 miles) with these key partners:
- United MileagePlus — Best for domestic flights and Star Alliance awards. Dynamic pricing, but saver-level awards still appear regularly on off-peak routes.
- World of Hyatt — Consistently delivers 2–4 cents per point for hotel stays. The single best hotel redemption program by a wide margin.
- British Airways Avios — Distance-based pricing creates incredible short-haul sweet spots. Flights under 1,150 miles cost just 7,500 Avios one-way.
- Virgin Atlantic Flying Club — The key to ANA first class at fixed, published rates. Also useful for Delta redemptions when SkyMiles prices are inflated.
- Air France/KLM Flying Blue — Monthly promo awards at 25–50% off standard pricing. The best SkyTeam redemption program.
- Singapore KrisFlyer — Access to Singapore Suites and competitive Star Alliance partner awards.
- Southwest Rapid Rewards — 1:1 transfer, no blackout dates. Useful if you’re a domestic Southwest loyalist, but generally lower value than other partners.
- Iberia Avios, Aer Lingus Avios — Separate from British Airways, with their own sweet spots. Iberia business class to Madrid for 34,000 Avios one-way is outstanding.
The Five Best Redemptions in 2026
1. Virgin Atlantic → ANA First Class (25 cpp)
Transfer 55,000–60,000 UR to Virgin Atlantic, book ANA first class one-way between the U.S. and Tokyo. The same ticket costs $8,000–$15,000 in cash. At the low end, that’s over 25 cents per point—the single highest-value redemption available from any credit card program.
2. Hyatt Category 1–4 Properties (3–5 cpp)
5,000–15,000 points per night for hotels that charge $200–$500 in cash. The Park Hyatt in Buenos Aires, the Hyatt Regency in Kyoto, and dozens of other properties consistently deliver 3–5 cents per point. Hyatt is the reason many experts consider Chase the best overall program.
3. British Airways Short-Haul Flights (4–6 cpp)
Flights under 1,150 miles for 7,500 Avios one-way: NYC–Miami, LAX–San Francisco, Chicago–Nashville. Cash prices on these routes often hit $250–$400 one-way. The per-point value makes this one of the most consistently available sweet spots in the game.
4. Air France Promo Awards (3–8 cpp)
Flying Blue runs monthly promotions with 25–50% off award prices. Economy to Paris for 12,500 miles one-way. Business class to the Caribbean for 40,000 miles. Sign up for their promo alert emails and check availability on the first of each month.
5. Iberia Business Class to Madrid (4–6 cpp)
34,000 Avios one-way for a lie-flat seat across the Atlantic. Cash prices on Iberia business class between the U.S. and Madrid range from $1,500 to $3,500. Transfer Chase UR to British Airways (Avios are shared across the Avios programs), then book Iberia metal.
When to Transfer
Golden rule: never transfer speculatively. Only transfer points when you have confirmed award availability on the airline’s website. Transfers are instant for most Chase partners (United, Hyatt, British Airways) but can take 24–48 hours for others (Singapore, Virgin Atlantic).
If possible, put the award on hold before transferring. Airlines like Singapore and ANA allow 24–72 hour holds on award bookings, giving you time to complete the transfer.
What to Avoid
- Booking through the Chase portal at 1.25–1.5 cpp. Unless you’re booking a last-minute domestic economy ticket, transferring to partners almost always delivers better value.
- United economy on high-demand routes. Dynamic pricing means a coast-to-coast economy award can cost 30,000+ miles one-way—worse than the portal rate.
- Marriott transfers. The 3:1 ratio is poor. Only use Marriott if you’re topping off an airline balance by a few thousand miles to complete a booking.
Putting It Together
The optimal Chase strategy is to earn points on the Sapphire Reserve or Sapphire Preferred, accumulate a balance of 100,000+ UR, and deploy them surgically on the sweet spots above. One well-timed ANA first class booking or a week at a Park Hyatt justifies years of annual fees.
Chase Sapphire Reserve — 75,000-point welcome bonus
$300 annual travel credit, Priority Pass, 3x dining/travel.
Chase Sapphire Preferred — 60,000-point welcome bonus
Spend $4k/3mo. Transfer 1:1 to United, Hyatt, Virgin Atlantic.
