Early May is the inflection point for summer transatlantic award availability. The carriers that haven't released summer saver inventory by May rarely do so before mid-July, when last-minute "use-it-or-lose-it" releases sometimes appear. The pattern in 2026 is more bifurcated than recent years: some routes are still wide open while others are completely locked down.
Wide open: 2026 summer transatlantic saver winners
- Lufthansa First Class via Star Alliance partners — particularly FRA-IAD, FRA-ORD, MUC-EWR. Lufthansa typically only releases First Class saver to partners 14 days before departure, but 2026 has been an exception with summer inventory bookable now via Aeroplan (140K) and ANA Mileage Club (110K round-trip).
- Air France Business via Flying Blue Promo Reward — JFK-CDG, IAD-CDG, IAH-CDG. Promo Reward windows are running 50K-65K each way in business, ~half the standard rate. Active May 7 with departures through August 30.
- Iberia Business via Avios — JFK-MAD especially. Off-peak Avios pricing on Iberia metal: 50K each way + ~$200 surcharge. Available across the entire summer at the time of writing.
Already closed: don't keep refreshing
- Singapore Suites JFK-FRA-SIN — closed for the entire summer. The seasonal capacity reduction on Singapore's Atlantic crossing means this is normally the first-to-go redemption every year.
- Qatar Qsuites US-DOH-anywhere — closed across all gateways for July and August. Sporadic availability on red-eye departures from JFK + IAD remains for June.
- ANA First Class to Tokyo via west coast — closed for the entire summer. ANA's First inventory typically only opens 14 days out, but their summer load factors are running so high that even short-window release has been minimal.
Mixed: requires patience but possible
The frustrating middle category in 2026 is the major US widebody business products: United Polaris, Delta One, American Flagship Business. Saver availability on these has been clustered into very narrow date ranges (typically Tuesday + Wednesday departures only, and only on specific gateways like JFK-LHR vs JFK-CDG). Our weekly scrape of summer 2026 transatlantic saver inventory found:
| Carrier | Tue/Wed saver hits per week (Jun-Aug) | Other-day hits per week |
|---|---|---|
| United Polaris | ~12 per week | ~2 per week |
| Delta One | ~8 per week | ~1 per week |
| American Flagship | ~6 per week | ~3 per week |
If your dates have to be Friday-Sunday, plan to redeem at standard (non-saver) rates or use a partner with non-restrictive award availability like Air France Promo Reward. If your dates are flexible to Tuesday-Wednesday, you can almost certainly find saver if you check daily.
The cheapest transatlantic business in May 2026 — actual numbers
- Iberia Business JFK-MAD on Avios: 50,000 Avios + $200 = ~$700 effective cost. Same flight cash: $3,800.
- Air France Business JFK-CDG via Flying Blue Promo: 50,000 Flying Blue + $310 YQ = ~$810 effective. Same flight cash: $4,200.
- Lufthansa First IAD-FRA on Aeroplan: 140,000 Aeroplan + $310 YQ = ~$2,300 effective. Same flight cash: $11,000+.
The Lufthansa First option is the highest absolute value but requires the largest mile balance. The Iberia + Air France options are the highest per-mile efficiency.
What's likely to open between now and mid-June
Carriers periodically open new saver inventory in 7-14 day cycles based on revenue-management forecasts. The two carriers most likely to open additional summer 2026 saver in the next month based on historical patterns: British Airways (which traditionally opens summer Sunday + Monday saver in mid-May) and SWISS (which opens secondary US gateway saver — BOS, IAD — in late May / early June).
