Is 54k JAL miles +$900 in fees a normal award price?

Hi everyone, first time using JAL miles, so I’m trying to understand how the award pricing works. I was checking an JFK–Japan itinerary and found what appears to be the lowest award option at 27,000 miles + about $400 one way. For the return, it’s another 27,000 miles + about $500 . So the total would be approximately 54,000 miles + $900–$1,000 in cash . Is this normal for JAL award tic
